New Addition to Nixu NameSurfer Suite: IPAM-only for Microsoft AD Networks

Nixu Software has today released version 6.5.2 of its flagship IP Address Management (IPAM) solution, Nixu NameSurfer® Suite. While primarily intended as a maintenance release, the new version also introduces new secondary zone support that allows Nixu NameSurfer Suite to be run in IPAM-only mode for Microsoft AD networks.

Most vendors offering IPAM solutions trust on IP Sweep to populate their systems with hosts in Microsoft networks. Based on rigorous testing carried out by Nixu Software, the problem with IP Sweep is that more and more machines are configured to run in stealth mode, not responding to pings sent out by the IP Sweep tool. In practice, this may lead to situations where up to 50% of clients in Microsoft AD networks can remain undetected by the IPAM system, thereby compromising the tool's reliability.

To solve this problem, the latest version of Nixu NameSurfer Suite utilizes AD zone files to mine out the hosts in Microsoft AD networks. According to tests carried out by Nixu Software, this approach yields a 90%+ detection rate, as opposed to the 50%+ discovery rate offered by IP Sweep tools in many cases.
