Nixu Secure Name Server 2 Series: PostgreSQL Powered DNS Security

Nixu Software has today made a public release of Nixu Secure Name Server (SNS) 2.0, the world's first virtualization-ready DNS software appliance. To facilitate the availability and performance requirements stemming from the ever increasing use of IP, Nixu SNS 2 Series ships with an embedded PostgreSQL backend optimized for performance and reliability. Nixu SNS 2 Series also introduces support for DNSSEC.

"At the end of the day, competing hardware-based appliances that use flat text files to store DNS data are really just overly expensive industry-standard pizza boxes with plain vanilla BIND inside. Nixu Secure Name Server (SNS) is a virtualization-ready DNS software appliance streamlining the tedious routines associated with installing and operating DNS servers. Targeted at organizations running BIND or Microsoft's DNS products in their networks, Nixu SNS provides customers with higher level of DNS security while slashing the overhead costs associated with running a DNS server. Nixu SNS can be operated as an authoritative DNS server, a caching DNS server, or both. Distributed as a purpose-built ISO image, Nixu SNS can be run as virtual appliance in VMware or Citrix XenServer environments; as traditional appliance on x86-based hardware of choice; or in a mixed environment optimized for cost and continuity requirements.

Being a software appliance, Nixu SNS is sold as annual subscriptions at $495 (US) per server per year including maintenance and support. By automating the tedious installation and maintenance routines associated with running DNS servers, it offers lower TCO and higher level of security than traditional do-it-yourself DNS servers based on open source software.
