DNS DoS Attacks and DNS Spoofing Hit SANS Institute's Top-20 Internet Security Attack Targets
On November 15 2006, SANS Institute published their 2006 annual update of Top-20 Internet Security Attack Targets.
The SANS Top-20 is a consensus list of vulnerabilities that require immediate remediation and has been published
since 2000.
The 2006 annual update of the Top-20 Internet Security Attack Targets included also Domain Name System, as Recursion
Denial of Service attacks and Spoofing Authorative zone Answers made their way to the list. The full report can be
found from www.sans.org/top20/.
By implementing Nixu SNS on their public internet name servers, organizations are protected from the DNS security
vulnerabilities sighted by SANS Institute. Nixu Software is the first vendor to offer a built-in Intrusion Prevention
System in a DNS server, allowing organizations to protect their DNS from Recursion Denial of Service attacks.
Additionally, Nixu SNS.s secure software appliance design with built-in hardened Linux OS and automated security
patching ensures that Nixu SNS is not open to Spoofing Authorative zone Answers.
Said Juha Holkkola, Managing Director of Nixu Software: "Organizations that have not
been affected by DNS
security vulnerabilities so far are either on borrowed time, or spend significant amounts of time securing their DNS
servers. Nixu SNS allows all organizations to secure their public DNS servers from the security threats sighted by
SANS Institute, and reduce the TCO of their external DNS at the same time."
