Cloud Computing
DNS and DHCP servers have traditionally been run on general-purpose servers that host a multitude of network services and applications on the same machine. This deployment strategy introduces several disadvantages including limited scalability as all pieces of software compete for the same CPU and other system resources; increased exposure to vulnerabilities due to undedicated system architectures increasing the number of attack vectors and potential vulnerabilities; and lack of integrated management tools and automations.

The easiest and the most cost effective way to eliminate these problems is to deploy a virtualization-ready DNS, DHCP and IPAM (DDI) software appliance solution on a private cloud running dedicated virtual machine for each service. Another increasingly popular option is to buy a hosted DDI service from a Managed (Virtual) Service Provider offering DDI on Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) basis.

By running DDI services as dedicated virtual machines on a highly available virtualization platform, organizations will be able to utilize their consolidated computing resources for DNS, DHCP and IPAM services based on demand. Perhaps more importantly, by running DDI services in virtualized computing environment, organizations will be able to benefit from the built-in high availability and resiliency features of commonly used virtualized platforms, without having to invest in application or service-specific HA technologies that often double the cost of the deployment.

As enterprises, government agencies and universities proceed with private cloud computing initiatives, the only way to optimize Return on Investment (ROI) is to virtualize as many applications and network services as possible. Having introduced virtualization-ready DDI software appliances to the market as early as 2006, all Nixu Products have been certified as VMware Ready and Citrix Ready. Distributed on an electronic ISO installation media, jump-starting new Nixu DDI server instances as virtual machines can be carried out in a matter of minutes, resulting in a hardened server stack optimized to serve you.

Advantages of Virtualization & Cloud Computing

    • Eliminate DDI scalability, availability and management issues
    • Simplify provisioning of new virtual machines to reduce OPEX
    • Monitor and view IP allocation to virtual machines in real-time
    • Deploy HA DDI architecture by leveraging virtualized platform
    • Scale up performance by increasing CPU and memory allocation
